Who can volunteer?
- Anyone who is 21 years of age or older
- People with the desire and time to help an abused or neglected child
- Anyone, regardless of their training or backgrounds, who loves children and wants to help
No legal training is required
Is it possible to be a CASA while working?
- Yes! Many CASA volunteers work full-time.
What do I have to do to become a CASA?
- Fill out an application
- Provide work and personal references
- Sign a criminal background check release form
- Participate in an in-depth interview to discuss your background and reasons for interest in CASA
- Complete a 30 hour training course
What happens after the training course?
- New CASAs are sworn in as officers of the court
- A judge appoints CASA to the case of a child in state custody
- A staff coordinator works with the new CASA volunteer to develop a strategy for beginning work on the case and then provides continuing support throughout the duration of the assignment
- The new CASA volunteer begins gathering information from everyone involved in the child’s life to be compiled into a report made to the judge on the case
How long is my volunteer commitment?

Each volunteer is asked to commit for a year with the program. We hope that our volunteerswill want to continue their service to serve additional cases.
How much time will I spend every month volunteering?

CASA volunteers average 10 hours per month of volunteer work.

I'm ready to become a CASA volunteer. How do I get started?

- Mail or fax your fully completed application to the Little Dixie CASA office
- We will contact you to set an appointment for an interview and you will be on your way to becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a child in foster care.
